BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Barn Lot Theater, a nonprofit performing arts organization that features live performances in Edmonton, KY, will debut the hilarious comedy, Farce of Nature on June 17th, which will be their first play inside their theater space since the pandemic shut down live performances nationwide in 2020.

Farce of Nature Overview

Farce of Nature highlights a day in the life of the Wilburn family of Mayhew, Arkansas. D. Gene Wilburn owns a fishing lodge that has fallen on hard times, but that’s the least of his worries on this day. His discontented wife, Wanelle, is frustrated with their love life and believes D. Gene has a wandering eye. His gun-happy ex-cop sister, Maxie, uses the lodge as a safe house to protect mob snitch Carmine DeLuca, who is in the witness protection program.

D. Gene’s son, Ty returns home from his acting job in Chicago to patch up his relationship with his long-time girlfriend, Jenna, whose patience has reached the breaking point after months of waiting for him. Meanwhile, Ty’s flirtatious boss, Lola, follows her “boy toy” to Arkansas, creating a huge mess for Ty and the entire Wilburn family.  And THEN Lola’s gangster husband Sonny shows up!

Will D. Gene impress potential investor Roxanne Thorne enough to help save the lodge—and maybe even his marriage—amidst potential shootouts, odd disguises, and wild animal attacks? At the delightfully chaotic climax of this play, love blossoms, truths are revealed, and the lives of all—family, guests, and gangsters alike—change in incredible and surprising ways. This side-splittingly funny comedy is guaranteed to win you over—hook, line, and sinker!

The staff and volunteers of Barn Lot Theater are incredibly excited to be back to business as usual and have been working hard in preparation for Farce of Nature. Rick Barnes, who plays Carmine DeLuca, said, “This show still cracks us up, even after rehearsing it so many times. We can’t wait to see a live audience’s reaction.”

Brandon Kyle Hadley, Executive Director of Barn Lot Theater and the Director of Farce of Nature, said: “The [Barn Lot Theater] board of directors told me to make the first play back as outlandish and hilarious as possible—to come back with a BANG. After the year we’ve had, people need to laugh. This is the funniest show I could think of, and we can’t wait to hear our audiences laugh again.”

Farce of Nature opens on Thursday, June 17th, at Barn Lot Theater at 207 South Main Street in Edmonton, Kentucky. Show dates are June 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th at 7:00 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances, and 2:30 PM on Sundays (Central Time).
