Lucy Patterson’s walk-off leads Warren East to softball Region 4 Title
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - This is one the Warren East fans will never forget, as the Lady Raiders come from behind in a 3-2 walk-off win over the South Warren Lady Spartans.
South Warren came into this game on a 19 game win streak and had not lost a region game all year. All of this would change at the worst possible moment of the season.
In the first inning, South Warren went up 2-0 after a two-run homer by Caroline Pitcock. In the second Emma Young was able to bring home a run with an RBI double. After these early runs, it was a pitcher’s due and Emma Markham had the hot hand for Warren East.
At the bottom of the 6th Maude Forrester came up with a clutch double. A few batters later Madison Hymer slaps one to center and Forrester is able to beat the throw and tie the ball game at two.
South Warren strands two runners on base at the top of the 7th.
Bottom of the 7th, tie ball game, freshman Rylee Carter comes in and makes a clutch hit to put the go ahead run on base. Next, a wild pitch allows pinch-runner Cameron Deel to advance to 2nd and put the game-winning run is in scoring position.
That’s when the veteran senior Lucy Patterson known for making clutch plays makes one with a walk-off hit down the third baseline that sends Warren East to the state tournament. The Lady Raiders win this in dramatic fashion 3-2.
Warren East will take on Henderson County this Saturday, June 12 in Lexington at John Cropp Stadium
