BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The Bowling Green-Warren County branch of the NAACP hosted their 107th annual Freedom Fund Gala at the Augenstein Alumni Center at Western Kentucky University Saturday evening.
People from various organizations and political offices and communities attended Saturday night's event.
The theme for the Freedom Fund Gala was "Our lives matter. Our votes count."
President of the local NAACP chapter, Martha Amerson, said it's more important than ever to go out and vote in this years elections.
"What we want people to realize is it's not just they don't care about our vote and it's not just saying they're going to do what they want to do anyway," Amerson added, "No. We do have a voice, and it's up to us to get out and vote. We can't just keep tying our hands together saying they're going to do what they want to do. No. We must take action."
Amidst national protests against police brutality, Michael Delaney of the Bowling Green Police Department was designated the Master of Ceremony for tonight's event.
