BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The 1980 Corvette rebuilt by Warren County high school juniors and seniors over the past year was given the ultimate test today.

The Warren County Area Technology Center guided students as they put the true American sports car together.

Professional driver, and NCM Motorsports Park General Manager, Mitch Wright, took the for a spin around the park.

Warren County ATC Principal, Eric Keeling, says it's an opportunity for area students to work together to learn about a path toward a STEM career.

"Everybody's a part of the team and everybody has a different role," he says. "We had an engine team, we had a transmission team, suspension team, a brake team, and in the welding class did all the fabrication. They're actually the ones who pulled the body off, they built a rotisserie to put the frame on so we could spin it and work on it."

The car was put to the test today, to prepare for what's in store this weekend.

It will be raced against another car put together by students at SKYCTC.

It's the second year for the event. Last year, the winner was the high school team.

It will be raced by Mitch Wright this weekend at NCM Motorsports Park and Beech Bend.
