2017 St. Jude Dream Home winners tour home for the first time

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- What started as a rainy Monday for many, ended up being the first day for a local family touring their new home.

"Thank you! Thank you!" Ronnie and Vickie Decker said, walking through the front door of the 2017 St. Jude Dream Home -- now, their home.

It all started with a ticket. One they actually forgot they had purchased during St. Jude's early bird special.

"Ronnie said, maybe we ought to buy two this time. And I believe I told him, no, it just takes one," says Vickie.

That single ticket won them the Bowling Green St. Jude Dream Home.

"God is an awesome God. We give him praise for all of it. Without Him, we're nothing," adds Ronnie.

Walking through the house and trying to take it all in, the couple is faced with several decisions they hadn't planned on having to make.

"We've got a little farm back in Leitchfield, Kentucky that we think a lot of," says Ronnie.

"We'll probably sell it [the Dream Home], we won't move in it," adds Vickie.

Ronnie continues her sentence saying, "We never even dreamed about winning it. That didn't even enter my mind when I bought the ticket. It's just something I felt like I needed to do."

But they still can't believe they won.

"We're just normal people. We're nothing special, we just take it one day at a time," they say.

Several rooms in the house are already full of laughter and memories just after the first few hours as the Decker's look through the home.

Vickie -- taking pictures of every detail, and Ronnie -- testing out the appliances.

"Buy your tickets because it's wonderful," he says.

They say this is their third or fourth year buying a St. Jude Dream Home ticket, and without a doubt, they'll continue to keep buying tickets every year.

"Absolutely! May two," they laugh.

More than $600,000 were raised during this year's ticket sales.
