BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - A normal day at work turned into a surprise award ceremony for Terry Blankenship.
"Terry, you are our newest patient safety hero," said a representative from the Kentucky Hospital Association.
KHA gives monthly awards to the entire state of Kentucky, and Blanketship was the recipient for April. He dedicates each of his days to making patients feel at home, as if it were his family.
"I figured if a parent or a relative were to spend time in a hospital... I would want them to be in the cleanest environment possible. So I make it clean for everybody else," Blankenship says, after winning his award.
His coworkers stood by his side as he received the Safety Hero award, proud but not surprised.
"It's cleaning rooms but it's also taking care of patients emotionally. If they need something he gets it for them," Christa Atkins, his supervisor explained.
The Medical Center of Bowling Green celebrated with him and his family with a brief reception after the award ceremony. It did not, however, stop him from getting back to work immediately.
"I just like doing what I do," he said, as he continued working on "room four", the room he was interrupted from working on.
