A 19 year-old Bowling Green native, and best selling author, aims to inspire others
Kenan Mujkanovic is only 19 years old, but the Western Kentucky University student and Bowling Green native is inspiring others to reach for their dreams, with the publication of his book, "Voices of Bowling Green".
"I centralized it towards our city of Bowling Green by getting almost all of our young individuals here, from first grade all the way to Seniors in high school, to share their stories of things they went through in life, and basically providing inspiration to others who may be going through something similar, that they can make it through," says Mujkanovic.
Prior to becoming an Amazon Best Seller earlier this year, Mujkanovic was also a local Jefferson Award winner.
He is also a recipient of the National Caring Award, for creating a non-profit dedicated to helping those who may be disadvantaged.
"I was just like whoa, you know. I was just shaking...my heart was beating out of an adrenaline rush...I was so excited," says Mujkanovic as he recalls being notified of receiving the award.
Other recipients of the National Caring Awards include the Dalai Lama, Pope Francis, and Kenan's own personal inspiration., Muhammad Ali.
"I believe that if we are all there for one another, if we all provide a helping hand, when one of us are down, it will usually come back around at some later point in your life," he says.
"You might be at an all-time low and someone could help you out, and you remember "O, I helped that person out.".
Being an involved member of the Bowling Green community, he has developed a friendship with City Commissioner Sue Parrigin, who says she is inspired by his ambition.
"It's absolutely inspiring to me. Kenan talks a lot about his mission in life it to be inspiring to others, well he can count me in as one of those who are inspired by him," says Perrigin.
She says Kenan's story is proof great things can be achieved with passion and drive.
"He's really showing us that you can come here, and you can work hard, and you can live the american dream, and you can achieve everything you want to achieve.," says Mujkanovic.
"You just have to want it, and you have to go for it, and you have to work real hard for it".
Kenan says he plans to continue helping others and and working toward his ultimate goal of making the world a better place.
"It's all about providing a helping hand for one another, and being kind and caring, and understanding each other," he says.
"I think that's one of the resolutions I have to world peace, is that, if we would all learn to love each other, care for one another, and help each other when one needs it...we could eventually have world peace".
