The children of the after school program at the Housing Authority of Bowling Green were given a copy of the book "Who was Jackie Robinson?" on Friday.

WKU PBS donated 100 books to the program to promote reading in the community's youth.

The book tells the story of how Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson changed sports forever.

Some of the students were excited to read about this historic figure.

"He had to be brave because if it wasn't for him," said Zai Jackson, "African Americans probably wouldn't be able to play baseball."

When asked if he was going to read the book, Zai responded, "Oh yeah, definitely."

"I'm already on chapter 8," Zamauryon Owens jokingly chimed in.

This is the second year that WKU PBS has donated books to this after school program.
