Andy Beshear warning Kentuckians of "jury duty" phone scam

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WBKO) -- Attorney General, Andy Beshear is officially warning people in the Commonwealth to be wary of a phone scam that's reportedly sweeping across the country.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, the caller pretends to be a U.S. Marshal, a court worker, or a state or federal law enforcement official.

They will then claim that you have failed to appear for jury duty and must pay a fine immediately over the phone or risk arrest.

Beshear advises that anyone receiving this type of call hang up.

"Law enforcement officers and other federal and state authorities will not call to arrange immediate payment of fines over the phone for missing jury duty."

To report a scam contact the Attorney General's Office at 888-432-9257.
