Barren County hires mental health expert in wake of increased school shootings
The Barren County School District is hiring a mental health coordinator to help train staff on how to recognize issues before they escalate.
The school says this hire is to help them be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to the issues schools are facing.
The mental health coordinator will be at the disposal of the school district and used for a variety of things.
"We're hoping through the hiring of a mental health coordinator, that they'll be able to help implement programs and educate the staff as well as our students and families in the community," said Anthony Frasier, the district's Director of Pupil Personnel.
Barren County school leaders say they are doing more safety exercises and working to enhance their communication methods to be proactive.
