Barren County Schools celebrated National Farm to School Month today, with a Local Brunch for Lunch meal.

The kids enjoyed locally grown fruits and vegetables. In fact, they grew it themselves in their own garden. They peeled apples and made apple crisp. They made biscuits. They have a greenhouse and a carpentry group. There are 36 kids in the class, and they're excited about what they're learning.

"We had the kids make breakfast casseroles like I said, with the herbs and the peppers from the garden. We also used some leeks from the garden too, which was really neat because the kids had not had experience with that before."

Drake said the Local Brunch for Lunch is all to help the students learn that home-grown food is more nutritious, so they can understand what it means to eat healthy.
