BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- After a very wet and cold off-season, the weekend many people have been waiting for has finally arrived. Beech Bend Raceway kicked off their racing season with drag racing.
"I've got a need for speed," racer Tyler Moffitt said. "I'm planning on taking it all the way down to finals and taking home the money."
Even junior racers got to have some fun in the sun.
"I'm racing for number one," 2-year veteran Gage Blair said. He gave 13 News a full tour of his nicely painted drag racing car. "I'm excited and ready."
For some, it's more than just a race -- it's a family tradition.
"My uncles have done it, my dad has done it, it's something that I've always loved to do," Moffitt said. He raced the same Camaro his dad used to race before his passing.
Moffitt said it's also about the family gained throughout the experience.
"If my car was broken down right now, the people out here that would come to help out and show love and support -- that's the most heartwarming thing," he said.
Both racers said the most important thing is the thrill of being on the racetrack.
"My favorite part about racing is when you take off. You got to know what you're doing," Blair said.
"You're getting amped up," said Moffitt. "You really got to be ready on the starting line."
You can see a list of any of the races on Beech Bend's website.
