The Barren County Sheriff's Office has identified the body found in a house fire on Boatman Road.

Officials say the victim is 41-year-old James Barnes.

They say the identification was made under presumptive circumstances. Barnes was the only known resident of the home.

A neighbor who spoke with 13 News, Kenneth Beach, said he knew Barnes.

"The gentleman who lived here, he was a resident for out here his whole life. He was a real good guy, done a lot of community service for people and as far as I know he was well-liked and just an all-around good guy. I know that me, as well as others, are going to miss his face," Beach said.

No foul play is suspected.

A death investigation is ongoing in Barren County after a body was found inside a home during an overnight house fire.

Firefighters were called to the home after midnight at 960 Boatman Road in Barren County, close to the Warren County line.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the body found inside the home has not been identified.

"I know there were multiple fire departments dispatched to the scene and they were there for probably three to four hours fighting the fire," said Deputy Mike Houchens with the Barren County Sheriff's Office.

He said the body has been sent for an autopsy, and following preliminary results, no foul play is suspected at this time.

"We won't know more until that's completed and we get the results back from that," said Deputy Houchens.

"Our main focus of concern is, we've got a deceased person inside the residence and at this point we have a death investigation," he added.

Neighbors just finding out about fire said they can't believe it.

"Oh it's heartbreaking. It's pretty tight-knit out here. We've got little churches and it's pretty much all family out here and everybody looks after everybody's stuff like they're family," said Kenneth Beach, who lives nearby.

According to Beach, a man lived in the home alone, but again, the body found inside the home has not been positively identified.

"We have a name of the resident there but we have not confirmed at this time that that's the resident that was found inside the home," said Deputy Houchens.

The investigation into the fire is being led by detectives with the Barren County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshal.
