Cave City, Ky. (WBKO) -- For the past nine years Kentuckians have been helping families in need through the Build-a-Bed program, but this is the first year it will be hosted by Caverna Elementary.
The project will be held in the gym at 9:00 a.m. April 28, when they are expecting 47 beds to be built and delivered, making it the largest build in the history for the region.
"And we'll start assembling the beds in the gym," said Americorps Site Representative Terry Smith. "All the lumber will be pre-cut by Barren County Trade School. And we're gonna get that over here the day before and get it set up and ready to go on the 28th."
In addition to a twin-sized bed, students in need will receive pillows, sheets, a nightlight, and a book. And this year, each family will also get a box of non-perishable canned food items.
Smith says more donations are needed to allow them to build all the beds they need.
