BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- UPDATE, 6/3/19, 7:12 p.m.

Brian "Slim" Nash posted a statement discussing the incident to Facebook Monday morning.

In part, Nash says:

"I owe each of my family, friends, supporters, and the community a personal apology for the events surrounding my arrest for public intoxication on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

I want to begin by expressing my tremendous remorse for any re-traumatization that my actions may have caused to any individual who has personally been harmed or had a loved one harmed by an alcohol related incident. I have spent the majority of my life trying to help people and would never intentionally do harm."

Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower released a statement addressing the incident on Facebook Friday evening.

“Many have asked... why was Mr. Nash not arrested for DUI. That was the same question and concern I had at 12:30 AM when I received the notification call that Nash had just been lodged in the WCRJ. I met with the deputy today and he provided his discretionary reasoning. The nature of this job is to make instantaneous decisions that are afterwards scrutinized in the eye of the public and media. In light of what transpired and reviewing this incident, I am most confident that there would be different charges if this same scenario happened again.”

The following is the statement from attorney Alan Simpson who is representing Nash:

"Brian Slim Nash, like many people in the area attended a concert last evening at The Skypac. Slim, like many in attendance consumed alcohol at the event. Upon walking out of the event, he walked with his adult daughter to secure his vehicle so that it could be left overnight. Just as he was contacting Uber, for a ride home, he was approached by law enforcement and arrested.

Mr. Nash will not contest the charges and will enter a plea of guilty to the his charge of Alcohol Intoxication 1st Offense."

According to the Warren County Regional Jail’s website, Bowling Green City Commissioner Brian "Slim" Nash was arrested on Thursday night for alcohol intoxication in a public place.

According to a citation, one deputy working special detail at SKYPAC says they noticed Nash was extremely intoxicated.

The deputy adds they saw Nash get into his vehicle and start the engine.

The citation goes on to say the deputy had talked to Nash, and Nash stated he was not going anywhere.

The deputy then told Nash to exit the vehicle.

The official then added that Slim was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.

Authorities say Nash had his daughter in the vehicle with him at the time he was trying to leave the parking lot.

Law enforcement then arrested Nash, they add that as they tried taking Nash he stopped and tried talking to his daughter, police then verbally told him to enter the police cruiser but Nash stood still.

Officials say Nash was placed in the police car with a minimum amount of force.

Back in 2017, Slim Nash had a 2013 DUI charge against him dismissed. Nash was found guilty on the improper turning charge and was sentenced to state traffic school.
