City of Bowling Green names model neighborhoods, recognizes neighbors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Crestmoor and Hillview Hills received the inaugural “Model Neighborhood” designation at Thursday night’s 18th Annual Neighborhood Builders Banquet.

The designation is meant to recognize "a neighborhood that has achieved a model level of community spirit, cooperation and communication as a vital neighborhood of choice in Bowling Green."

Both neighborhoods completed neighborhood entry and signpost projects and maintain communication with neighbors through Facebook groups.

Neighborhood and Community Services will provide markers at the entrances of Model Neighborhoods so visitors and residents will be reminded of the special designation.

The Pillar Award, designed to recognize an anchoring business or organization that enhances the appearance and vitality of a neighborhood through upkeep and service, was also introduced Thursday night and presented to the Eloise B. Houchens Center.

Bonnie Whitney received the Mortar Award for exemplary service to neighbors behind the scenes for Edgehill Place.

James Miller, Jr. and Mary Bennett together received the Mortar Award for exemplary service to neighbors behind the scenes for Eastland Park.

Charlene Walker, West End Community Gardeners, received the Cornerstone Award for motivating and recruiting others to participate in meeting neighborhood challenges in her neighborhood.

The Neighborhood Awards have been held every year since 2000.
