BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- A Warren County icon has passed away at the age of 89.

Colonel Robert E. Spiller was born on Christmas Day in 1928.
He was the very definition of philanthropist, helping organizations ranging from the Salvation Army to Kids on the Block.

It's a drive he carried over from his first days in the army, to his retirement 30 years later, taking care of others was Colonel Spiller's top priority. "I just felt as though I was able to help the troops," said the Colonel. "And that was my mission for 30 years."

And after his years of service to his country, the Colonel kept on helping people until his death this past Saturday.
