Columbia Police Officer cruiser hit during pursuit

COLUMBIA, Ky. (WBKO) -- According to the Columbia Police Department, Sunday morning before 6:00 the sheriff's office and city police were notified of a vehicle pursuit.

Officials say the pursuit started in Russell Springs and crossed over into Adair County on Russell Road.

Columbia Police say Officer Adam Cravens was hit by the pursued vehicle about one mile down Russell Springs Road, causing severe damage to his cruiser.

Police say the pursued vehicle also sustained damage and before reaching the city limits, the driver fled on foot.

Additional units from city police, the sheriff's office, and a K-9 unit came out and assisted in the search.

Michael Nichols of Russell County was apprehended by Deputy Derek Padgett. Police say Nichols was hiding at a property off Water Works Street.

Nichols was handed over to Russell Officers, where the pursuit began, and taken to the Russell County Jail. Police say he will face additional charges in Adair County.

Officials say Officer Cravens was admitted for treatment at TJ Samson due to the collision and has since been released.
