BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Thursday morning, 13 News got an up-close look at the re-designation of the Natcher Parkway into an interstate.
Crews raised the new I-165 sign on the exit 20 reminder on I-65, that you see before you get to the Natcher.
The new shield signs will be installed along over 70 miles of roadway, spanning from Bowling Green to Owensboro.
It's an initiative that was announced by Congressman Brett Guthrie and Governor Matt Bevin back in 2016.
The process officially started Wednesday.
"Well, it's a big deal. It's not something that happens very often, and it's certainly a big deal not only for Warren County, but the other communities who are not along an interstate," said Wes Watt, public information officer of KYTC Cabinet 3.
Watt said over the next week or so, people can expect to see more changes along the route.
This is among the first group of signage going up, and crews will be working on changing exit numbers and small way-finding signs.
