Cumberland Trace Elementary wins free shoes for every student
Every student at Cumberland Trace Elementary recieved a free pair of New Balance tennis shoes on Thursday.
They were awarded the shoes by New Balance thanks to their hard work logging the number of miles they walked and ran throughout the school year, which totaled more than 7,000 miles.
Nate Whitman, Director of the New Balance Foundation 1 Billion Mile Race, said their team traveled all the way from Boston for the presentation.
"We know that active kids do better. They do better in school, they have better health outcomes. We want kids to learn healthy habits at an early age, and running and walking is a skill that can carry with them through the rest of their lives."
The contest the school won is part of a three year initiative by New Balance to get schools across the nation to collectively walk or run 1 billion miles.
The company is now one year into the program, and they say they are definitely on track to hit their goal in the next two years.
