LEXINGTON, KY. (WKYT) --- The Fayette County Coroner's Office has identified the six people killed in a wreck on Interstate 75 in Lexington.
According to our sister station in Lexington, WKYT, the crash killed a family of five from Northville, Michigan, and 41-year-old Joey Lee Bailey of Georgetown. The family members killed in the crash were 42-year-old Issam Abbas, 38-year-old Rima Abbas, 14-year-old Ali Abbas, 13-year-old Isabella Abbas and 7-year-old Giselle Abbas.
The Abbas family was travelling home from a Florida vacation. The coroner's office believes Bailey was under the influence.
Lexington police say they received a report of a white pickup truck driving in the wrong direction on northbound I-75 just before 2:30 a.m. Shortly thereafter, a collision was reported around the 106 mile marker.
When investigators got to the scene they discovered that the pickup truck driven by Bailey had hit the family's SUV head-on, causing the SUV to burst into flames.
Officials remained at the scene of the collision for hours, before reopening lanes at around 7:15 a.m.
The Lexington Police Department is now asking for help from anyone in the public who may have seen the white pickup truck prior to the collision.
Toxicology results are pending.
