Domestic violence turns deadly for Clarkson man

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office says at 12:17 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, central dispatch received a call of “shots fired” in the 3800 block of Hickory Flats Road in Clarkson.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered one person had been shot inside the residence. EMS first responders determined the subject was deceased.
Detective Dennis Dvorjak’s initial investigation revealed that on Monday, November 23, a woman had obtained an Emergency Protective Order against her estranged ex-husband, 54-year-old Donald B. Selby of Pinehurst Bay in Clarkson. Selby was served the EPO that same night by Deputy Clay Boone.
On Tuesday, Selby entered the home of the woman armed with a handgun with an obvious intent of doing harm. Also in the house were the woman's 21-year-old son, 23-year-old daughter, the daughter’s 33-year-old boyfriend, and the woman's current boyfriend, who was in the bedroom when Selby entered the residence.
Threats were made by Selby to kill the woman and her family. The woman's boyfriend then exited the bedroom and entered the kitchen where Selby had the woman at gunpoint. Selby spun to the boyfriend with the gun in hand, and the boyfriend shot Selby one time with a .357 revolver. Selby fell to the floor with the gun still in his hand and did not appear to have fired a shot.
According to the woman, she and her boyfriend had loaded the gun the night before, because they were fearful Selby would follow through with the multiple threats he had made in the past to kill her and her family.
According to all the witnesses inside the residence, they all feared for their lives and believed Selby was there to kill them. It was also discovered at the scene that Selby had a violent history of domestic violence against his estranged ex-wife.
Selby was pronounced dead at the scene by Grayson County Deputy Coroner, Larry Holman. The man who shot Selby was not arrested at the scene and no criminal charges have been filed. However, the investigation is ongoing and evidence will be presented to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for presentation to the Grayson County Grand Jury.
