BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Often times when we think of police officers we think clean shaved, prim and proper.
But things on the hill are changing a little bit.
WKU police awarded one student with the Face of Scholar Scholarship.
The scholarship stemmed from a discussion regarding police officers with facial hair which many agreed would humanize them more.
In an effort to also give back WKU Police partnered with the Intercultural Student Engagement Center where the officers who wanted to participate would make a donation and the amount raised would be awarded to one student.
Darren Griggs expressed how he felt after receiving the award, "I'm really proud that the work I'm doing is being acknowledged."
Tim Gray, WKU PD Public Information Officer says "In everything that we do we want to seize an opportunity to give pay it back into the community and those that we serve."
Gray says they have more projects in mind in the near future.
