UPDATE: Identity of fatal accident on I-65 southbound

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. (WBKO) -- UPDATE: 10:10 a.m., 1/26/18

Kentucky State Police say the collision involved three commercial vehicles.

According to police, Jeremy D. Wells, 39, of White House, Tennessee, was operating a 2015 tractor trailer and traveling southbound near the two mile marker. Wells failed to yield to the stopped traffic ahead. His vehicle struck the rear tractor trailer of Eric T. Chapman, 50 of Bethpage, Tennessee.

Chapman's vehicle then rear ended another tractor trailer operated by William R. Allen, 62 of Brownsville, Kentucky.

Chapman and Allen refused medical treatment on the scene. Wells was pronounced dead on the scene by the Simpson County Coroner’s Office.

UPDATE: 4:38 p.m.

Police say the interstate may be shut down for a couple more hours while a re-constructionist assesses the scene.


According to police, a fatal accident involving two semi trucks on I-65 southbound has claimed the life of one.

Officials say the incident happened at the second-mile marker southbound.

Authorities say two lanes of the interstate are blocked currently one lane remains open and a detour is being set up at the sixth-mile marker.

The driver's name has not been released.

As of 2:00 p.m., traffic is backed up for miles.
