Greenwood High School grad announces run for State Treasurer

Ky. (WBKO) -- A Greenwood High School graduate is running for State Treasurer.

Josh Mers, a 1999 GHS grad said the following about his campaign:

"I am excited about entering the race for Kentucky’s State Treasurer and excited to bring a message of both restoring trust and modernizing our Commonwealth’s Treasury. The position of State Treasurer is one that is often overlooked by many but serves as a vital watchdog and resource for the people of Kentucky. Our Commonwealth deserves a Treasurer that will fight for and defend folks living all across Kentucky. I look forward to bringing a financial services background and a determined spirit to work for Kentucky as our next State Treasurer.

I’ll add, that much of that determined spirit came from my parents, the teachers and staff at Greenwood High School, and everyday experiences while growing up Bowling Green."

13 News has learned Mers attended the University of Kentucky and served as the president of the UK College Democrats. He currently lives in Lexington.
