BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Since 2012, the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky has presented the South Central Kentuckian of the Year award to a deserving philanthropist in our area. Thursday that award was given to the late Jerry Baker.

Baker supported the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green, Orchestra Kentucky, the Symphony at WKU, the Phoenix Theater, and the Med Center Health Community Clinic.

Bob Hilliard and Keith Carwell accepted the award on Baker's behalf.
"Jerry was the type of person who never wanted recognition for anything," said Carwell. "He didn't want his name on buildings. He didn't want any publicity, but he would have been honored to have received this award."

Baker also supported numerous scholarships in horticulture, athletics, and the arts at Western Kentucky University.

The Jerry E. Baker foundation owns his residence, the arboretum, and the Joe Downing Museum.
