A bill that would make abuse of a corpse a felony has passed the General Assembly and now awaits Governor Bevin's signature.

Kristen Edwards, 22, of Cave City was murdered in July of 2016. Two years later Clark Smith was sentenced to 25 years in prison for her murder. One of Smith's charges was abuse of a corpse, which in Kentucky is only a misdemeanor.

Kristen's family has been working to create Kristen's Law, which would make abuse of a corpse a felony.

If signed by the governor, the law would go into effect July 1st.
