BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Red Cross volunteers from our area have recently returned from a trip to Texas after helping with relief efforts related to damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
Carol Gray says she's been on more than 20 deployments during her time as a volunteer.
Most recently, she's been in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Describing one area, Gray says, "Just total devastation. The one little community we went to called Trade Winds, it was really, really bad. They had horse trailers turned over, trees in their houses, buildings just literally looked like they were smashed."
"We passed out some cleaning items our first day, and then from then on we were feeding the people and they were very, very appreciative," she adds.
She says she received numerous hugs and 'thank you's' during the trip.
"The one I guess was the most memorable was the lady at Trade Winds where the little community was pretty much demolished. She grabbed us and hugged us and thanked us, and then she said a prayer of safety for us," adds Gray.
Now, she's back home in Kentucky, but says she's ready to go to Florida to help those impacted by Hurricane Irma, as soon as she gets a call she's needed.
