Local roadways closed due to flooding
All this rain from the past week is causing roads in our area to flood.
More rain is expected throughout the weekend. Creeks, rivers and other water areas will continue to rise.
The Transportation Cabinet has closed several roadways across five different counties so far. Officials are asking that people do not drive through barricaded areas.
"In many cases they get stuck, and then they have to call somebody to come get them out. That's just not right, that's not safe," said Wes Watt with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 3. "It's putting themselves in danger, but it's also putting other people in danger who have to respond."
The Transportation Cabinet says they will continue to monitor the roads all weekend long as the water on the roadways fluctuate.
"That changes rapidly, we'll have some in the morning that flood and then by the evening, they're clear, and they may go back up again later on," said Watt.
Always remember, "turn around don't drown." Here is a list of the roadways that are closed now as of February 23 at noon:
