Local school adopts "Sources of Strength" program

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) --- Warren East Middle School is the first school in Warren County to implement a suicide prevention program called "Sources of Strength."

The program is geared toward preventing suicide, violence, bullying and substance abuse by promoting help-seeking behaviors and encouraging connections between peers and adults.

On Wednesday, student leaders in the program met for a pep rally and discussed the initiative.

"We had a survey at the beginning of the year. We took a six-hour training to be in this program," said Jaci Miller, a member of Sources of Strength. "It took a lot of work and dedication."

With this program, members want to break the silence and be the voice for students that need support by helping them gain the necessary tools to get through tough times.

Sources of Strength was created in 1998 by founder Mark LoMurray, and has since been implemented in several schools across the nation.
