Local shoppers take advantage of "Super Saturday" deals

Bowling Green, Ky. (WBKO) --- Across the country, Saturday shoppers and retailers took part in "Super Saturday," the last Saturday before Christmas which is now considered the busiest shopping day of the year.

If you're a procrastinator, you might be one of 134 million shoppers taking part in "Super Saturday" according to the National Retail Foundation.

"I like it because, you know, prices are lower, but the only thing I don't like is traffic, it's horrendous. Lots of traffic and fighting that is terrible," said Mason Pierce, last minute shopper.

But for some, the traffic isn't an issue when you get those great deals and bargain buys.

"I needed stuff at the perfect time of year that I knew I could get the most for my money. The best deals are usually when it's busy and crowds don't bother me so I just go dig it out," said Danelle Coomer, last minute shopper.

This year, Wallet Hub rated Belk "the best place to shop for deals in the United States."

"Our traffic today is up significantly than where it was last year," said Belk Store Manager, Ashley Turner.

"Belk has some really good deals and prices, like some of the boots are $19.99 and my mother loves boots. So, I figured getting something like that would make her day special and it's cheaper," Turner said.

Also known as "Panic Saturday" men are seen shopping more often than usual.

"I feel like most guys are procrastinators, they wait until the very last minute," said Austin Pierce, last minute shopper.

"They've been very heavy in the cosmetics, fragrance and fine jewelry department. So all you ladies out there it sounds like you're going to get some good presents," Turner said.

It's no secret that online shopping is easier, but many still seem to brave the cold and the crowds to shop in store and feel the Christmas spirit.
