BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - As part of a sale earlier in 2016, five Macy's stores around the country will be closing, including the Bowling Green location at Greenwood Mall.
Macy’s, Inc. sold the store to General Growth Properties earlier this year.
The 124,000 square foot store opened in 1980 and currently employs 61 employees.
Macy's announced eligible full-time and part-time associates who are laid off due to the store closings will be offered severance benefits.
The store at Greenwood Mall will continue to operate through the holiday season. The plans are to close in Spring 2017.
The Director of Marketing Services for General Growth Properties, Regina Verdico, confirmed the department store Belk will be taking over the space.
"We are excited to welcome Belk to Bowling Green joining the fantastic line-up of retailers at Greenwood Mall. "
Belk released a statement saying "We are happy to confirm that Belk will open its first store in Bowling Green at Greenwood Mall."
"Construction will begin in April of 2017 on the space currently occupied by Macy's. Belk will welcome guests beginning in October of 2017."
Belk has 300 locations in 16 states, selling apparel, shoes, cosmetics, and more.
