BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - The National Corvette Museum is celebrating its 25th Grand Opening Wednesday as the 2019 Corvette Caravan comes to Bowling Green, bringing thousands of Corvettes and enthusiasts.
"This is my first time visiting the National Corvette Museum, but I've been to Bowling Green before. We're going to Mammoth Cave sometime while we're here," said Marcus Deskins, who drove all the way from New York City for the anniversary.
13 News Reporter Brandon Jarrett went live with a caravan as they head to the National Corvette Museum.
Registered attendees get to enjoy three days of activities including a concert by Jefferson Starship on Thursday.
The museum is marking the milestone anniversary by focusing "on the people that Corvette has brought together with a look back on the Museum’s history while looking forward to the future."
People are travelling from all over the country to celebrate and caravan together. Ray and Debbie Gastelum drove all the way from LA to join in the festivities.
"We own a corvette, it's just a lifetime trip to come out here. It's just an amazing trip. It took us six days to get here. It was a wild adventure the whole way." said Ray.
"We joined up with the caravan on Tuesday morning, we are now here after driving 400 miles. We were friends of the caravan and we were up front so it was pretty exciting." said Ray.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 tweeted an alert regarding heavy traffic and delays.
The large caravans are going to begin arriving soon. The first one is expected around 2:30 p.m. and others will arrive from that point until around 6 p.m. See the post below for more information. Stay safe everyone! https://t.co/1yJ0tyYrcl— KYTC District 3 (@KYTCDistrict3) August 28, 2019
Carroll and Les Thompson came from Wisconsin to attend the 25th anniversary. They have made multiple trips to Bowling Green over the years.
"It's been pretty exciting, this is the second caravan my husband and I have been on. We have both been here a couple times prior to that," said Carroll.
"It was very very exciting when we came here for the ground breaking of the race track. We were also here for the opening. It was just fantastic," said Les.
