A new roundabout opened up Saturday morning in Warren County at the intersection of KY 526 and KY 1320.

Officials say the new road configuration is a single lane roundabout, so it's not as big as the one on 31-W near WKU's campus, but they say it will help with safety and traffic flow in the area.

This roundabout is located near Ephram White Park, and according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, has 15 ft. travel lanes and a 10 ft. truck apron for semi trucks or large farm equipment.

Officials say with growth in the area, it was time to find ways to improve the roadway.

"The main reason for the roundabout project was to improve safety at that intersection. It was kind of a unique "y" intersection and it was also some sight distance issues there coming around a curve and we had a lot of high speed issues, people traveling way too fast in that area. There's also some crash data there as well," says Wes Watt with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The project was awarded in May to Scotty’s Contracting and Stone LLC in the amount of $353,797.91.

Signs have been placed in the area to alert drivers of the change, and officials are urging caution as people get used to navigating the new configuration.
