LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WBKO) – An overturned tractor-trailer hauling cattle shut down a portion of the Western Kentucky Parkway Tuesday morning for around three hours.
The driver of the semi, Nathaniel Martin, told police he fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the roadway on the east bound side, striking a ditch and overturning.
Several cattle, including bulls, escaped and fled to a shady wooded area near the roadway. One of the bulls charged Leitchfield Fire Dept. Chief Tim Duvall who arrived to assist the driver of the semi. Chief Duvall suffered minor injuries.
Several cattle did not survive the crash. The ones that did were transferred to another trailer and removed to the stockyards in Leitchfield.
Martin was not injure but was cited for an Hours of Service violation which included falsifying his federal log book.
