Police officer's body found in flooded field in Fulton County

HICKMAN CITY, Ky. (WBKO) -- On Saturday, March 3, Kentucky State Police say the body of a police officer was located in Hickman City, Kentucky.

Officials say around 5:00 a.m. Hickman City Police Officer, 45-year-old Rodney S. Smith of Boaz, Kentucky, was located in a flooded field directly off Bernal Avenue in Hickman City.

The police cruiser Mr. Smith had been driving was also located.

Officer Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fulton County Coroner.

When officials were notified Mr. Smith was missing, The Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Kentucky Division of Emergency Management began searching for him.

Search and Rescue teams and various emergency agencies from Kentucky and Tennessee looked for the patrol vehicle and missing police officer.

An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
