Russellville, KY. (WBKO) -- Kelley Paul, wife of U.S. Senator Rand Paul, sat down with the editor of her high school alma mater's newspaper today.
Matthew Williams, a senior at Russellville High School, discovered Paul attended the school in the late 70's and early 80's and made the decision to try for a sit-down interview with her.
Paul reflected on her time at Russellville High School and spoke about her anxieties attending college while being from a small town.
She says she wondered "Am I going to be well prepared for the academics here? I was intimidated. You know I was just, you know, small girl from a small town. That's the way I've always described myself.I was worried but I think I worked harder because I was worried, sometimes that is an advantage. You know, you prepare harder, you try harder, you put more effort into it, and when you do that, most of the time, you do fine."
Paul thanked Williams for his boldness for contacting her.
Williams was excited for the chance to sit down with Paul and get a sense of inspiration for his community.
Williams says, "For people who kind of need that role model, someone to look up to, to inspire them to look beyond the border of where they maybe grew up from or where they attended school."
Williams is looking forward to publishing his Kelley Paul interview in his school newspaper "The Paw Print".
