BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- It's been a long few months for Steve Sheldon. A successful few months though following Tuesday's election.
Sheldon defeated Malcolm Cherry (D) in the general election to be elected 17th District state representative.
Sheldon's predecessor, Jim DeCesare, has served as state representative for the 17th district since his start in 2005.
Sheldon is the first to brag on DeCesare, but knows he brings a lot to the table as well.
"I hope to improve on some things," Sheldon said. "Maybe I've got some expertise in some areas that maybe he didn't and vice versa."
CEO of Sheldon's Express Pharmacy, a big issue Sheldon plans to battle is the drug epidemic.
"I would want to focus on the things I'm very familiar with in the beginning where I can have the largest impact: opiod use, the recovery, the treatment, a lot of that is what I'd like to focus on," Sheldon said.
Sheldon knows there are several other areas he can make an impact as well, like infrastructure and commercial development.
As he prepares for his two-year term in Frankfort representing the 17th district, Sheldon wants his community to know one thing - his work ethic will be unparalleled.
"I'm going to go down and work as hard as they could possibly imagine," Sheldon said. "I'm going to work as hard for them as I've worked in this community for 35 years and I won't let them down."
