FRANKIN, Ky. (WBKO) -- One Simpson County teen was in Louisville Saturday competing against other high school students from across the state to become "America's Homecoming Queen."

Maddie Alexander, who was not only Homecoming Queen at Franklin-Simpson High School, but twice lettered in Varsity Football, competed against six other girls from across Kentucky.

The seven contestants competed for a chance at a scholarship, and Maddie says she wanted to use her platform to inspire others.

"It was an honor," she says. "It just proves again to younger and older women, adults, that you can do anything you set your mind to."

Maddie was not awarded the winning scholarship money, but nonetheless she will be attending Western Kentucky University after graduation from high school.
