An amended alcohol ordinance bill in Barren County now has the approval for Sunday sales.

Barren County Judge Executive Micheal Hale says the amending of the bill was to appease the locals.

"Fiscal court met again Tuesday night. Between October 15th when we had a first reading, and then our meeting Tuesday night, we heard a lot of people from the community and the county that said listen, we're in favor of Sunday sales."

"That was revisited in our fiscal court meeting, and the motion was made to have Sunday sales and it passed," Micheal Hale added.

And while the fiscal court was in session, they settled on a 5 percent regulatory fee for alcohol vendors, leaving Glasgow, Cave City and Barren County on the same page.

"Now we're uniformed across the county. Glasgow and Cave City, they still have to pass their second reading, and I think they meet next week. I don't see any reason why it won't pass," Micheal Hale stated.

But with the county saying yes to sales on Sunday, locals have mixed feelings about the amended ordinance bill.

"I just have concerns like any other person that, you know, like DUI rate will go up, or, you know I don't want like a liquor store on every corner I guess," Barren County local Kelly Underwood mentioned.

"I think that it's an individualized situation and it doesn't matter when alcohol sell. People are going to get it if they want it no matter what day the city or the county sells it, so we might as well reap the benefits," Barren County local Latoya Drake stated.

At the end of the day though, Barren County Judge Executive Micheal Hale says what's done is done.

"The people of the county have spoke, and they want alcohol sales."

"We had an open meeting to the public. We actually moved our time from 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the evening and we advertised that, and that gave people the chance that work during the day that can come and voice their opinions whether or not they were in favor or not in favor of Sunday sales," Micheal Hale explained.

Sunday sales are permitted from noon to midnight.
