BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Bowling Green Police are investigating a crash between a van and a train.
Police told 13 News around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, a train traveling north hit an eastbound vehicle on Tobacco Road, located just off Louisville Road.
The driver of the van was flown to a Nashville hospital.
"When the officers located the van, the van was off the west side of the track just within a very short distance," said Ronnie Ward, Public Information Officer for the Bowling Green Police Department. "The front end was completely removed from the van and it looked like it had some damage in the back as well where it may have swung around and hit the train."
CSX, who owns the train, is currently on-scene conducting an investigation into what happened.
Though there is no gate at the railroad crossing, there is a sign and lights.
"We do know the lights were working, but we are not sure what the driver, which way he was looking or really what he saw, so until we are able to get a statement from him that'll give us a much better picture," said Ward.
Following the crash, the train was moved out of the intersection about a half a mile north for further inspection.
