BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - February 11 marks National 2-1-1 Day and United Way of Southern Kentucky is showcasing our area's 2-1-1 services.
2-1-1 is a three-digit telephone number for the purpose of providing quick and easy access to information about health and human services. Specialists work with callers to assess their needs and provide information and referral services that can offer assistance and/or intervene in crisis situations.
Director of Southern Kentucky 2-1-1 Christine Dressler says the center is showing good results.
"Several people are being helped. We actually received over 17,000 calls since we first launched in July of 2016, and then 2017 to 2018 we saw an increase in call intakes of 13%, so the need is definitely there," said Dressler.
Callers receive information about utilities, housing, food, transportation, and more. The center is currently taking calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year with plans to expand to text services in 2019 and chat services in 2020.
