Vette City rolls out new colors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- The Michelin NCM Bash continues this weekend with the latest Corvette colors rolled out on Friday.

Vette City introduced two new colors this year: Dark Shadow Gray Metallic and Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic.

The body and paint manager explained how their new paint shop helped make these colors come to life.

"So the new paint shop we just installed certainly is a key enabler to it. We have a lot better technology and are able to control the spray a lot better than what we used to do in the past," said Chuck Valentini, body and paint manager for Corvette. "Lot of upgrades that went into that."

Valentini said the new blue shade is more metallic than that of their Admiral Blue Metallic option, and the new gray metallic takes on a lighter shade than previous gray colors, along with being a tinge greener.

"This is also a different paint formula that we use in our new shop. And that's allowed us to push the limits a little bit more on paint pigments, and how we are attaining color positions," he said.

Along with these new hues, General Motors also debuted the 2019 Stingray and ZR1 Corvette models. The annual festivities are a way for customers to learn more about the cars' features and voice their thoughts to Corvette creators for future features, Valentini said.

He predicted there to be several thousand visitors throughout the weekend.
