The Western Kentucky University Police Department will be wearing new uniforms starting Saturday afternoon.
The uniforms, which were chose by the WKU police officers, will be black instead of gray, with vests worn over the shirt.
“The outer vest type of uniform seems to be the way more agencies are going,” Sgt. Rafael Casas said. “The outer vest system is designed to have a more professional look.”
Casas said the uniforms include a suspender system that distributes equipment weight from the belt to the shoulders, making them more comfortable.
“The WKU Police Department has a new chief and a new look,” Casas said.
Mitch Walker was selected as the new police chief earlier this month after serving as interim chief since August 2016.
