Big events on the hill on Wednesday, as the fundraising unit changed its name and brand, to Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.

The university was also endowed with a major gift, to support diversity initiatives.

One of the donors, CJ Nichols, explained how important it is to get students motivated to stay in school so they can determine why they are in school.

"But to have a program like this I think it would keep them engaged give them some clear direction in which way they would like to go. And we are hoping that once they get to where they're going in life that they would look back and also want to help others."

Laura Turner Dugas was named Philanthropist of the Year.

The daughter of Dollar General founder, Cal Turner, is the head of the Laura Goad Turner Foundation, which has gifted more than $2 million dollars in scholarships, since its inception in 1989.
