Western Kentucky Police builds relationships with the community
Officers from the Western Kentucky University Police Department stepped off campus Tuesday.
They spoke to preschoolers about things police officers do they might not know about, all in an effort to build their relationship with the community.
The Department's Captain says he hopes speaking with the kids shows them it's easy to approach a police officer.
"As they get older, they'll kind of remember these things as us going forward and helping them, in a positive note. Rather than them thinking that we're just there to do the lock-up thing that everyone thinks as policing in general," Captain, John Bailey said.
The Captain says it's fun to talk to the kids and see their excitement with the things officers use every day.
The Department says in the future, you can expect to see the WKU police officers out in the community more often.
