Woman going opposite direction on I-65 causes fatality

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -- Kentucky State Police say they received a call to respond to a two vehicle injury collision Sunday night in Warren County.

The collision happened Southbound on I-65 near the 24 mile marker in Bowling Green.

Officials say when they arrived on the scene to investigate, they spoke to witnesses, who say a woman driving on I-65 southbound had slowed down at a low rate of speed. They tell officials the woman took the exit and got back on I-65 southbound to drive the opposite direction.

K.S.P. says in their investigation they found that Cassandra Garrison (30) of St. Louis, Missouri was the car operator.

Garrison continued her path of travel, striking a 2003 Ford Mustang in a “head-on” manner.

It was being operated by 41-year-old Amy Eakles of Alvaton, KY.

Garrison and Eakles were transported on scene via EMS to the Medical Center Hospital in Bowling Green.

Eakles was later flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital where she lost her life.

Garrison was transferred Veto Skyline Medical Center Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police was assisted on scene by the Bowling Green Police Department, Bowling Green Fire Department, and Medical Center EMS.
