Bassey Named To First-Team All-Conference C-USA Team

DALLAS, Texas (WBKO) --- Players from four different schools are represented on the 2018-19 All-Conference USA men's basketball first team, featuring three seniors, one sophomore and one freshman. Old Dominion senior guards Ahmad Caver and B.J. Stith are joined by Marshall senior guard Jon Elmore, UTSA sophomore guard Jhivan Jackson and WKU freshman center Charles Bassey to comprise the league’s first team unit. Voting on the awards was done by the C-USA head coaches and media members in each conference city.

Guard play dominated the league this season and that is reflected by that position taking 15 of the 16 spots on the first, second and third team All-Conference squads. Overall, 11 different schools placed at least one player on at least one of the three units. The group is compiled of seven seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and one freshman.

Bassey, a nine-time C-USA Freshman of the Week selection, headlines the conference’s All-Freshman team, joined by standout rookie performers from Marshall, North Texas, Rice and UTEP.

The C-USA five member All-Defensive Team consists of stop down standouts from Old Dominion, Southern Miss and WKU, as well as two defenders from FIU, including repeat selection Brian Beard, Jr.

The Conference USA Superlative awards for Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year will be announced Tuesday. The C-USA Player of the Year and the C-USA Gene Bartow Coach of the Year will be unveiled on Wednesday.

The 2019 Air Force Reserve C-USA Men’s Basketball Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star in Frisco tips off on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit ConferenceUSA.com.
