BOCA RATON, Fla. (WBKO) --- Raneem Elgedawy had a huge game with 25 points and 16 rebounds to help guide WKU past Florida Atlantic, 81-50, inside FAU Arena on Saturday afternoon to close the Lady Toppers’ first road trip of C-USA play.

Elgedawy had one of her best games of the season for the Lady Toppers (11-8, 5-0 C-USA), who won their sixth straight game. Her performance comes on the heels of her 28-point, nine-rebound outing at FIU on Thursday and marks her second 15-rebound game of the season.

The Lady Toppers continued their hot shooting, going over the 50 percent mark for the sixth consecutive matchup. WKU finished 31-of-58 (53.4 percent) from the field and was 5-of-13 (38.5 percent) from three-point range.

Arame Niang enjoyed a strong game off the bench, scoring 14 points in 14 minutes; she was joined in double figures by Meral Abdelgawad (13) and Dee Givens (10), who has now scored in double figures in every game this season.

WKU held Florida Atlantic (3-16, 0-6 C-USA) to just 30.2 percent shooting (16-of-53) on the day, including a 3-of-19 mark (15.8 percent) from beyond the arc. Ra’Kyra Gabriel was the lone Owl in double figures with 14 points on the afternoon.

Florida Atlantic took an early 4-2 lead over the first two minutes, but WKU roared back with eight unanswered points over the next two minutes to retake the lead. Givens knocked down back-to-back triples to key the run for the Lady Toppers, including one on the fast break that saw her left uncovered on the left side.

WKU’s lead briefly grew to as many as nine points before a 7-0 Florida Atlantic burst pulled the Owls within two. Four different Owls scored during the run, with Abby Voss’ layup narrowing WKU’s lead to 15-13 with 1:23 on the clock.

A 15-2 run midway through the second quarter finally broke the game open for the Lady Toppers. Elgedawy poured in 11 points during the four and a half minute stretch for WKU, and her three-point play at the 2:59 mark gave WKU its largest lead of the afternoon to that point, 34-20. Florida Atlantic briefly cut back into the deficit, but WKU netted the final five points of the quarter to carry a 39-22 lead into the locker room.

WKU kept extending its lead out of the halftime break, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the third quarter to build a 25-point advantage. Elgedawy was again the key to WKU’s run, scoring the final six points under the basket for a 49-24 lead over the Owls.

Over the final quarter of play, Florida Atlantic was unable to close any closer than 26 points against the Lady Toppers. WKU pushed its lead to as many as 35 points before cruising to the 81-50 victory over the final three minutes of action.

With its first C-USA road trip of the season in the books, WKU will return to E.A. Diddle Arena next week with a pair of matchups against Southern Miss (Thursday at 6 p.m.) and Louisiana Tech (Saturday at 2 p.m.). Thursday’s battle with the Golden Eagles will be a rematch of the 2015 and 2017 C-USA Tournament title games, both won by the Lady Toppers, and Saturday’s bout will see WKU go for its seventh straight win in the series against the Lady Techsters.
