HORSE CAVE, Ky. (WBKO)-- Peyton Siva, Russ Smith, and Luke Hancock are arguably three of the most beloved Louisville basketball players of the past decade thanks to their strong performances during the 2013 season that brought Louisville its third national championship.
One fan that's lived to see all three of those titles is Joan Walbert, 86, of Glasgow. She has loved the Cardinals for quite some time.
"Since about '59," Walbert said, "Loved Denny Crum. He's been one of my favorites."
Although she didn't know why she loved U of L so much, Walbert did admit who her favorite player was.
"Luke Hancock," she said. "I have a grandson who could be his twin."
That was a compliment that Hancock was honored by.
"That's what it's about. Those little experiences," the 2013 NCAA Final Four most outstanding player said. "Everybody has them growing up with an athlete or somebody who's in the limelight for a minute, and for us to have those experiences with fans like you said, she was 86-years-old and just wanted a picture. If I can try and make somebody's day like that I'm going to try and do it."
With all that has happened with the Louisville basketball program as of late, with the NCAA investigation, Walbert is not bothered one bit by it, and she has one simple prediction for next season's team.
Walbert said, "We're going to win. We're going to win the whole thing."
